We just visited our son, daughter-in-law and their family when they were camping. I grew up camping here every summer when I was a kid. A lot of new things have been added from back in the 60's - 70's but even though they were full it was nice and quiet while we sat outside and ate around the campfire in T Section.
The campground is really nice. The people at check in were very nice and helpful. The other campers though were not so much. They were VERY LOUD and inconsiderate of others in the campground. They played very loud music outside most all night. They were very loud and I'm sure were probably drinking. There were several different campers/sites that were super loud way past 10-11pm. We will not be going back there to camp again.
Love Hillman Ferry. Kind staff, relatively clean restrooms, nice camping spots. We love it here and visit often. Great place to camp, kayak, fish, hike, ride bikes. I will say it appears they had a pretty bad storm, and the bike trail was impassible the past 2 times we've gone. We had to pick our bikes up several times over downed trees crossing the path. Campground is also close to the bison and Elk Prairie. Great place to visit and unplug.
I am a local in the area. My mother and I often drive around Land Between Lakes, as it is one of my favorite spots to enjoy and hike. We don’t often camp, simply because our house is a short drive away.
However, as we were driving around today, we were finding new places just by eye. No research beforehand, which will not be a mistake that will be made again, simply because as we entered Hillman Ferry Campground, we entered what we thought was the unregistered vehicle lane. At this time, the attendant in the booth came out of the door, and started in on us. She said something along the lines of, “You cannot be here without a reservation,” to which my mother and I didn’t know, because like I mentioned, we hadn’t researched any of these places beforehand. This was fine, we understood. However, she continued to say rude things to us, acting as if we were breaking the law by turning around. Granted, we didn’t make the full loop around the booth, just because we aren’t familiar with the area.
She said, after we turned around and circled the booth, “Do you have a hard time following instructions? I already told you once that you cannot be here, so now, don’t come back.” And then she proceeded to write down my mothers licenses plate number as we drove off.
Not that it is entirely relevant, but my mother and I just had a devastating death in the family. We were driving around solely to clear our minds, and this experience didn’t help matters in the slightest.
I am not usually a review leaver, and I get that people have bad days. But, the way that she talked to me and my mother, especially during what is a terrible time for us, was very unacceptable.
A campground for long term RVs. Most of the sites are reserved for 9 month seasonal reservations. NOT a place to stay if you are a camper. Filthy bathrooms. Trashed site. Loud neighbors until 1am. Radio blaring all night. The main entertainment appears to be driving a golf cart around the huge campground. Stay away if you camp for an experience in nature.
We were in campsite A #18 gor 5 nights , it was a nice site .
The bath house needs maintenance no hooks to hang clothes and towels on , everyday except the day we left there was no soap in the ladies room .
Shower#3 gets extremely hot 🔥 scold hazard.
All of the staff we encountered were very nice and helpful, and the little store is well stocked and has just about anything you need at reasonable prices .
A favorite was visiting the Bison and Elk Prarie, we went during the middle of the day once and saw nothing, went the next day after 6 p.m. and so lots of both.
We would for sure visit Land Between the Lakes again.

The first thing you need to know is... if you rent a cabin, keep in mind it is rustic, which in this case means, NO TOILET FACILITIES IN CABIN. There are bathrooms/shower houses nearby, however. We were not crazy about the location of this particular one. I wish we had known in advance that this one was up a very steep hill. We rode in on motorcycles and could not get up the hill safely, so we had to park in a different location than our actual cabin. Since it was during the week and some of the camp sites were not occupied, the camp allowed us to park with our friends who were at another campsite. The camp hosts were so great helping us out with this issue. The park is very busy during the day but not at all noisy at night. Be aware, though, that this place has lots of small critters that come out at night, especially skunks, but It is a national park, so that is to be expected. We did see several deer, and they are so beautiful. All in all, we would stay here again but not in the cabin on the hill... number C110, by the way.
We always love camping here. As with any campground, some sites are better than others. We were a little disappointed that our area had the water turned off while other areas remained on but it is what it is.
